Don't Cry Richie

Richie McCaw has been nominated for NZ’s most pretigious sporting award, the Halberg.  He won’t be attending the ceremony as he helps his Crusaders prepare for a pre-season match.  McCaw is taking a break for the first 4 rounds of the tournament.  You’d think this would enable him to attend an awards ceremony where it’s likely he’ll receive an award, nothing worse than someone being given an award and not turning up to receive it in my opinion.  Committed to his team, award snubbed or just not interested in accumulating accolades?

Maybe he wants to watch the cricket, since it’s… you know… STILL CRICKET SEASON!

Fucking rugby. We get enough of it the rest of the year, without it encroaching into cricket season. Seen the Super 14 is starting soon? WTF?

LOL.  Every year you never fail to bring up this gripe.  Unfortunately times have changed Greig, cricket is now a 12 month sport and they Black Caps tour overseas during our Winter, and are therefore now playing cricket all year round, I don’t hear you complaining about that!   Rugby is only a 10 month.  The Intl Cricket Calendar has a cricket tour during every single month of the year this year.

+1 to Greig.  Cricket is worthy.

Anyway, if I invite Richie to an event where I might give him an award, should he be obliged to turn up?

Personally I don’t have a problem with Cricket and Rugby being played at the same time since they’re my favourite sports, bring it on.  Richie is a little more than a ‘might’.  He won IRB player of the year last year so it’s extremely likely he’ll win.  If he had something better to do I could understand but my point was, he isn’t playing in the Super 14 for it’s first month, it wouldn’t be tough to fly back to Chch to see the Crusaders the following day surely.
